Maria Middelares Medical Center in Gentbrugge underwent a necessary modernization, aimed at improving patient care and adapting to growing needs. The outpatient clinic was thoroughly renovated, with a new layout built around a central void and panoramic elevator. This creates an open, spacious feeling and makes the building more accessible to visitors and patients. The ground floor provides space for reception, the registration area, radiology, consultation rooms and waiting areas, while the second floor includes new consultation rooms and a kidney dialysis department.
In the extreme phase, the higher floors were prepared casually for future use, with flexible spaces that can later be designated for housing, care, welfare, education or office. This creates a sustainable and future-proof building that grows with the region’s healthcare needs. The large floor-to-ceiling windows bring in plenty of natural light, creating a pleasant working environment while maintaining the exterior of the building’s modern and open appearance.
The design focuses on flexibility, efficiency and sustainability, with a clean and clear structure that responds to the functionality and expansion possibilities of the hospital. The building provides the outpatient clinic with a clear, accessible layout and forms an important link between the surrounding parks, residential areas and the E17.
