De Klerck Engineering contributed to the expansion of De Leefschool elementary school, where we built three new classrooms, sanitary facilities, and a new refectory with associated kitchen, dishwashing area and storage room. The extension was carefully integrated into the green school grounds, concentrating the buildings to preserve the open space. Administrative and functional services were positioned centrally to ensure efficient operation.
The design of the new building is consistent with the existing structure, but stands out with a fresh and contemporary look. The facade is executed in a combination of cladding and concrete, which contributes to the sober, modern design. The specific implantation has given the building a new face, facing the Keiberg.
In terms of technical aspects, the expansion paid particular attention to sustainability and user-friendliness. The south-facing facade of the refectory and classrooms is equipped with sun blinds, which prevent overheating in summer while providing the necessary privacy. These blinds also add aesthetic value, as they lend a playful element to the facade. At the back of the building, the site is slightly elevated so that the classrooms have easy, barrier-free access to the playground, making the functional design ideally suited to the needs of the school and its students.
