The Leuven Bioscience project on the KU Leuven campus Arenberg III in Heverlee includes the construction of a new research building for the Department of Biology and the Flemish Institute of Biotechnology (VIB). This high-rise volume project is a beacon for the campus and reinforces the geographic positioning of the science cluster in the surrounding area.
As stability engineer, Studieburo De Klerck contributed to the design of this project. The building is designed with an intensive building program and a high-rise volume, which requires a robust and efficient stability structure. The building’s integration into Arenberg Castle Park and its proximity to existing height accents, such as the Imec Tower and Arenberg Castle, require careful coordination of stability designs to meet both aesthetic and functional requirements.
The project was designed by the Dutch-Belgian consortium consisting of Proof of the sum, SVR-ARCHITECTS, Exilab and Studieburo De Klerck. Proof of the sum and SVR-ARCHITECTS are responsible for architectural design, Exilab for techniques and building physics, and De Klerck Engineering for stability.
